UPSC Mains 2013: (Solved) General Studies Paper 1

I am uploading here what I wrote in the General Studies paper 1 of 2013 UPSC mains exam. This is just from memory and may not be accurate. You are most welcome to criticize/add to/suggest alternate answers :-) I am only putting up a link here because the formatting of wordpress leaves much to desire.

    1. It is not written for using operators like -,+ or any other in the box itself so the
question is not correct. Using minus in the box itself is not fair

  1. the ans is,
(3+1) in first box 11 in second box and 15 in last box,,…as in question it is said that i can use all the things i.e., (1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15) but i can repeat only numbers,so the correct ans is this……

  2. the ans is,(3+1) in first box 11 in second box and 15 in last box,,…as in question it is said that i can use all the things i.e., (1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15) but i can repeat only numbers,so the correct ans is this……

  3. The answer is ”not possible” as it is given only odd nos ant the resultant is even. As it is state that “the sum of THREE ODD NUMBER is ODD number itself. Hence the answer is “not possible”.

    1. You are correct
      But
Any mathematical operation used in boxes because they didn’t tell how to fill the box. it will be possible

  4. Gaurav …how dare u..? Do u think u r genius. Try to fill the boxes at first if u can give the right answer. Otherwise u will get -0.33 ok….

  5. if u look carefully in d question its nowhere written to use NUMBERS ONLY so u can even use () brackets along with the numbers

    therefore 11+(3+1)+15=30

its more a question of awareness than mathematical… hope this helps

  6. 11,173 + 13,79 + 5,15 = 30,113

Because they say “Fill the boxes” and the entire exam question was in a box itself! (all given numbers used

But if you prefer just filling only the little boxes :

    11.719 + 13.131 + 5,15 = 30

    Chromatius, exete by nature

  7. (3^3)+(3)+(1)=30+1
In 3 raise to the power 3,no any additional symbol is used i.e., 3 raise to the power 3 naturally exists
